Soup, Snow & Nürnberger Lebkuchen
Greece like the rest of Europe is experiencing snow storms and plunging temperature. Athens is eerie quite today but it did not stop me going out. Athenians are not so used to this kind of weather, Athens rarely turns white but when it does… the city is like a ghost town. Last time it snowed like this was two years ago
and all flights were cancelled, Athens airport is not fully equipped to deal with this kind of weather am afraid.
The Acropolis is freckled with snow (would have been a great photo opportunity but for 12€ entrance nah I would rather walk around and enjoy the frosty bliss.
Yes I said frosty bliss… I kinda miss this kind of cold weather.
Took the photo of these pigeons just when the snow started falling heavily.
After the gym, I decided to walk home and I was literally covered with snow. I felt like one of those penguin battling the Antarctic winter.
As soon I came in my body wanted something so warm and comforting. I know I still have a small portion of pumpkin. So I made a quick soup.
Its easy thing do… click for recipe here
As I type this, I am enjoying a mug of tea and some Nürnberger Lebkuchen which I got from the German Food Exhibition .. THE TASTE OF GERMANY…I went to last weekend, but that will be another story.
Nürnberger Lebkuchen is a gingerbread with wafer based and you can taste and SMELL THE SPICES… yes spices perfect for this Siberian temperature.
One can still taste the exotic spices from all corners of the globe in wafer-based gingerbread: aniseed, cloves, ginger, cardamom, mace, coriander, allspice, candied orange and lemon peel and cinnamon. Almonds and other nuts are also added

I’m keeping warm Sha, have the fire going. I’ve just put another log. I wish i have your soup though… looks so warming. I don’t think we’ll ever get used to chilly weather somehow. Athens and Jersey sounds similar. All you have to have is the fog and nothing moves here. No newspapers, no post and no flights. But we still have to go to work!
when was the last time it snowed in Athens?
Hi Sha,
Indeed, snow in Athens, what are the Gods doing? Last week here we had 15C, yes!
I guess you and me must have had similar ideas, SOUP! Lovely picture of yours, and oh yes the pigeons are a great shot! Love those kinds of moment!
the soup really looks good, sha..though it’s a not-so-cold day here in NY, i could still use this just for comfort..can i have a bowl please? and those gingerbreads!
MAE: nah greeks just need to come up with an excuse not to work 😉
CHARLES I have not been here for 2 winters
BEA the gods are angry hahha…. luckily I did not let the pigeons inside..
CES those gingerbread are from germany… given to me
