Gyros
Coming back home means endless wandering around my area. Having lived in the US on and off for the past year, Athens seems to be a world apart from Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach where I have been based.
I go and look for the old faces, neighbourhood tavernas, grill, souvlaki places that seems stood timeless with the changes. These places keep going in spite the financial crisis and the social political shift of Greece.
As for my order gyro apo ola parakalo, meaning with tzastiki, onions ,tomatoes and maybe few chips.
OMG, now I’m hungry! Can I have a Gyros, pleaaaase?!
Cheers,
Rosa
Yum! Gyros is my absolute favorite sandwich/snack. I can smell the seasoning coming off that roasted meat from your pictures…now, I’m hungry too!
Rediscovering one’s home is always very nice, esp. if it involves food. hehe.

Very greek indeed, whoha haven’t tasted this for a long time. I dunno if it’s the same taste it must be that green sauce or something.
I remember these gyros from Athens…and miss them so! Enjoy your old stomping ground! 🙂
Gyros is my favorite food group!!!
It reminded me of my first movies in Amman, Jordan but back there it is called Shawerma..arabic version..yummy!

Greece and Florida must be a world-apart.. I must agree, even if I havent been there.. LOL.. i love gyros. I used to enjoy it when I was in Germany (dunno how authentic they were, though).

They have good grilled chicken.
The one at Ippokratous is still there.. imagine June comes thats 25 years in Greece and that place remains the same.
Jes in Germany chances were it was Turkish lol… Yup Athens and Florida are two different world indeed, am lucky to have lived on both sides of the coin.
