Στιγμιότυπα – Gyros
Greek street food gyros comes to my mind!
A versatile food that comes in different forms. Basically you can get it either with pork or chicken.
Then you can ask for double pita.
Then order it apo ola (meaning everything, tzatziki, tomatoes, onions, even chips yes potatoes)
Or xoris (without) .. things you do not want inside your gyros.
Do not be confused with the souvlaki which comes from a stick.
Gyros is shaven meat and funny few gyros shop these days use electric knives.
For me its always APO OLA.

there’s no better place to get one but in Greece itself…but mind you ang mga Pinoy, marunong na rin nyan. There was a time like 4-5 years ago that almost every streetcorner in the metropolis had that – ang tanong agad e, “chicken, beef or pork”. I think we still have some in malls these days, Cafe Mediterranean comes to mind.
Our gyros in Greece was so big, but since we were famished from all the touristic activities, we gobbled it down in seconds. Pang contest.
SHAwarma!!!
I really enjoy Greek food. Where I am from the people don’t really differentiate between gyros and souvlaki. They call both kebab, I think which is a teriible name to include two totally different types of food. But I love both souvlaki and gyros. And yes, it’s apo ola for me, most definitely! *drool…*
love both souvlaki and gyro..my fave street food here in Astoria..i usually have these for lunch in the office since i just go down and there it is! i was also planning to post this a long time ago!
